Baby Animals

This week in the news were two big stories that saddened people across the world:

A gorilla mourns the death of her baby:

And a lost infant whale was euthanized.

What is it about animals caring for their young that pulls at our heartstrings? The story about the gorilla who wouldn't give up her dead baby was the most heart breaking, as it was obvious she was in denial. It makes us think about how we relate to animals and relate stories like these with our own young.

What these news articles also made me wonder was why they were such big news when other horrible things are happening to our own human children:

Although stories about dead baby animals and distressed animal mothers saddens me, I am more disturbed that human babies are being murdered all the time, but we don't shed a tear.

And don't forget about the "poor" little polar bears fighting for survival.

I think it's called an agenda. There is an agenda from the msm to purposely show us articles like the ones about animals and to not show us articles about pornography and child pornography. It has been well-said that the media cannot dictate what we think but it can dictate what we think about. In other words, the msm can barrage us with incessant "cute animal" stories and easily divert our collective attention away from the grittier issues like child pornography and forced abortion with or tax money.

I know it sounds a bit far-fetched but it's really not. Just as Christians have a world view and a matching social agenda, so do liberals and study after study has shown that those individuals who make up the media are overwhelmingly liberal in their personal lives. It's a stacked deck.

Our only hope in this is to keep and maintain our own alternative media. Blogs such as this one, Christian radio stations, Christian newspapers and other outlets must, MUST, keep shining the light on these issues; it's our only hope to change the hearts and minds of people and citizens. The liberals know this all too well. This is why the democrats have promised to revive the so-called Fairness Doctrine once they capture the White House. Very scary stuff.

Thanks for bringing your own light to these issues. Keep it up.

I'm glad to have discovered your blog. I'm so impressed with how boldly you speak the truth.

I agree with John's take, although I also think that within secular/atheistic circles there's a mysterious dislike of humans, and a lot of projecting of intense feelings onto animals. In my city there are a *lot* of pro-choice animal rights activists. It's so odd. They spend a lot of time and money making sure that cats get good healthcare, and then go advocate for partial-birth abortion.

Anyway, I look forward to following your blog. I have it on my bloglines feed.
